This course introduces the learner to the necessary and practical project management concepts and skills that lead to reductions in project cycle time while maintaining control over budget, resources, risk, and delivered value. This course proposes to integrate practical project management skills within the project management lifecycle (i.e., initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing).
The Project Management course was a turning point in how I think about organizing, leading, and executing work, both professionally and academically. I’ve managed teams and projects in the past, but I often did so relying on instinct and experience rather than a formalized system. This course helped me see the importance of structure, planning, and accountability through the project management lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. Concepts like work breakdown structures, milestone planning, and risk management gave me new tools and language to approach my projects more strategically. The course gave me clarity on how to manage complexity, streamline communication, and lead with purpose—skills I now apply in both instructional design projects and in team settings.
What resonated most with me were the real-world insights we gained from guest speakers to practical assignments to our group discussions. Seeing how seasoned professionals navigate challenges made the learning tangible and relevant. The use of actual project management tools added another layer of realism and has left me feeling more prepared to take on leadership roles with confidence. This class strengthened my understanding of project management and also my confidence in my ability to lead and organize. Moving forward, whether I’m designing learning experiences, supporting learning projects, or even continingin my own personal skill development, I know I’ll be taking the lessons from this course with me every step of the way. Great practical class!
