This course will prepare students to work within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to set up and manage an online course. Students will investigate and manipulate components of Canvas from an instructor's perspective.
Exploring Canvas was a short but valuable course that gave me hands-on experience with setting up and managing an online course within a Learning Management System (LMS). I worked through the core features, including adding learners, managing privileges, organizing content, setting up assignments, and evaluating student progress. Understanding how to structure courses effectively, reorder modules, and use different content presentation options helped me see how Canvas supports both instructors and learners. The flexibility in course design was a key takeaway, as it allowed for differentiated learning and a better flow of instructional materials.
Canvas is primarily used in academic settings but the foundational LMS administration skills I learned can be applied to corporate training environments as well. Managing users, tracking metrics, and structuring content are essential in any LMS. Outside of the core coursework, I explored more advanced features like SCORM uploads and KPI tracking to get a better understanding of reporting and analytics. This experience showed me how important it is to choose the right LMS features to create an engaging and efficient learning experience, whether in higher education or workplace training.
